Single phase pad mounted transformers are used with underground electric power distribution lines at service drops to step down the primary voltage on the line to the lower secondary voltage supplied to utility customers. When the use of the crane is restricted, the single phase pad mounted transformer can be moved using a rolling device. During the movement, the transformer should be kept in a vertical state and moved horizontally.

Combustible structures like houses, garages, and other buildings must be at least 10 feet from single phase pad mounted transformers. For non-combustible structures, this clearance can be reduced to three feet.
