Hand-held cutting is highly operator-sensitive. Pressure, alignment, vibration and handling can change wheel wear dramatically. For purchasing trials, compare discs on the same casting type with similar cut length, grinder, operator method and pressure; otherwise 'disc life' alone can be misleading.

Too little pressure can glaze the abrasive surface and reduce cutting action; too much can break the wheel down faster. The practical target is stable cutting without forcing the grinder. Evaluate cutting time together with disc consumption instead of optimizing either metric alone.

When a wheel loads and starts rubbing instead of cutting, heat can rise quickly. Casting condition, wheel condition, feed pressure and cooling all influence burning. If heat increases during production, treat it as a process signal rather than simply increasing grinder pressure.
