SS304/316L Candle Filter System Cake Discharge & Clarification for Food Manufacturing

The candle filter operates as a pressure-driven, fully enclosed system using vertical filter cartridges (candles) as the skeleton. As liquid is pumped into the vessel, it passes from the outside to the inside of the cartridges through a filter cloth. Solid impurities are trapped on the outside, forming a "filter cake layer" which then acts as the primary filtration medium. The resulting clarified liquid escapes through the center of the cartridges.

This equipment features a fully automated dynamic backflushing system that achieves true dry and wet separation. When the filter cake layer reaches a certain thickness, the PLC control system initiates a reverse blowing process using compressed gas (such as air or nitrogen). This dries the filter cake and automatically discharges the solid residue from the bottom, completely eliminating the need for manual cleaning of the filter elements.

The core structure consists of a closed stainless steel cylinder (the pressure vessel), multiple porous candle filter cartridges, specialized filter cloth covers, and an intelligent PLC control system for automation. Auxiliary components required for operation typically include feed pumps and an air compressor for the backflushing mechanism.

In the beverage sector, it is utilized for the precision filtration of fruit juices, yeast, and fructose syrup, as well as the decarbonization and decolorization of citric and malic acids. In the pharmaceutical industry, the enclosed system is ideal for filtering biopharmaceutical fermentation broth, isolating active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), processing crystals and mother liquor, and the safe recovery of high-value catalysts.

The stainless steel candle filter offers a fully closed, sanitary operation with no dead zones, ensuring it meets strict hygiene (cGMP) standards and prevents exposure to hazardous materials. It provides sub-micron filtration accuracy, features a low failure rate since the main body is static, and utilizes a grouped filter element design that significantly reduces air consumption during backflushing while allowing for the isolation of damaged elements.
