The protective lens is installed at the bottom of the laser cutting head. Its main function is to protect the internal optical components (such as the collimating lens and focusing lens) from dust, debris, and molten metal spatter generated during the cutting process.

Replacement frequency depends on usage conditions and cutting materials. Generally, it should be inspected daily. For typical mild steel cutting, replacement every 200-400 hours is recommended. If cutting highly reflective materials (e.g., aluminum, copper) or under heavy contamination, more frequent replacement may be required.

A high-quality protective lens should have a transmittance over 98%. Some premium options with anti-reflective double-sided coating can achieve up to 99.5% transmittance.
