Q:How to choose between Q355B and Q235B channel?

Q235B yield 235MPa, good ductility/weldability, low price, for general load and span structures; Q355B yield 355MPa, 50% higher strength, good toughness, for long-span, heavy load, cold regions and dynamic load structures. Same load Q355B saves 20-30% steel, but unit price 5-10% higher. Selection: load size, span, environment, economy.

Q:Difference between Q355B and Q345B?

Q355B is upgraded grade of Q345B (2018 GB/T 1591 revision), same yield strength (>=355MPa), but Q355B has stricter chemical composition and impact toughness requirements (-20C impact energy >=34J, Q345B +20C >=34J). Q355B more stable performance, can replace Q345B. We stock Q355B.

Q:Does Q355B channel need preheating before welding?

Q355B carbon equivalent <=0.45%, good weldability. Generally (plate thickness <=25mm, ambient temp >=0C) no preheating needed; thickness >25mm or temp <0C recommend preheating 100-150C; important structures recommend post-weld stress relief heat treatment. Use E50 series electrodes (e.g., J507) or matching strength wire.

Q:Can hot-dip galvanize?

Yes. Q355B channel hot-dip galvanized has 20-30 year anti-corrosion life, suitable for outdoor heavy-load structures. Galvanizing has minimal effect on Q355B mechanical properties, but need to control deformation during galvanizing. Recommend fabricate first then galvanize.
