Q:Difference between channel and I-beam?

Channel has U-shaped section, good bending performance, suitable for purlins, wall girts, supports; I-beam has I-shaped section, narrow flanges, low lateral stiffness, suitable for secondary beams and purlins. Channel price 5-10% lower than I-beam, but section modulus slightly smaller. Selection: load type, span, cost.

Q:Difference between standard and light channel?

Standard channel has thicker web and flange, higher load capacity, for load-bearing structures; light channel has thinner web and flange, 15-20% lighter, for non-load-bearing or light load-bearing structures (curtain wall, decoration). Same size (e.g., #10) has standard #10 and light #10, different dimensions and weights.
