Fire pumps meet stringent NFPA 20, UL, and FM requirements for reliability. They must produce specific flow rates and pressures (40+ PSI), with performance curves ensuring shut-off head is 101-140% of rated head. Casing integrity must withstand 3x max operating pressure hydrostatically.

Typical lead times run 5-8 weeks from the release of an order.

For a horizontal split-case pump, sit on the motor facing the pump. If suction is from the right and discharge to the left, it is right-hand (clockwise). The opposite is left-hand (counter-clockwise).

Motors and engines are sized per UL, FM, and NFPA 20 standards to operate on any point of the curve without exceeding the service factor. They often utilize a 1.15 motor service factor since fire pumps do not run continuously.

A flow meter loop tests hydraulic performance but NOT the water supply integrity. For initial start-up, flowing water through the system with hoses and Playpipes is required to ensure the entire system's integrity, unless the loop returns to an above-ground tank.
