Q:How does the wedge locking mechanism work?

The ledger end is placed into the cup of the standard. The pin is inserted through the holes in the cup and the ledger. The wedge (tapered side first) is inserted into the matching slot on the protruding end of the pin. The wedge is firmly tapped with a hammer until tight. The taper forces the pin to expand slightly, locking everything in place. To disassemble, the wedge is struck from the back to loosen it.
