Q:What is an electromagnetic flow meter and how does it work?

An electromagnetic flow meter (also called magmeter) measures the flow rate of conductive liquids based on Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction. When a conductive liquid flows through a magnetic field, it generates a voltage proportional to the flow velocity. The meter's electrodes detect this voltage and convert it into a flow rate reading.

Q:What types of liquids can be measured with an electromagnetic flow meter?

Electromagnetic flow meters are designed for conductive liquids, including: Clean water and tap water, Wastewater and sewage, Seawater, Acids, alkalis, and chemicals, Slurries and pastes, Food and beverage liquids. They cannot measure oil, gas, steam, or non-conductive liquids.

Q:Does the electromagnetic flow meter cause any pressure loss?

No. Electromagnetic flow meters have a straight-through, obstructionless design (full bore). There are no moving parts or obstructions inside the flow tube, which means no pressure loss and minimal energy consumption. This makes them ideal for gravity-fed or low-pressure systems.

Q:What output signals and communication protocols are available?

Electromagnetic flow meters typically support multiple output options: Analog: 4-20mA, 0-10V; Pulse / Frequency (for totalizer); Digital communication: RS485 Modbus, HART, Profibus, Bluetooth (optional). Some models also offer wireless transmission (4G, NB-IoT, LoRa) for remote monitoring.

Q:Can the converter be installed separately from the sensor?

Yes. Electromagnetic flow meters are available in two configurations: Compact (integral) type: Converter mounted directly on the sensor; Remote (split) type: Converter installed up to 100 meters away from the sensor. The remote type is ideal for high-temperature environments, submerged installations, or locations with limited access.
