Airbag fabric manufacturers

Airbag fabric is a high-performance technical textile, typically made from High-Tenacity Nylon 6,6 (PA66). You must prioritize denier counts (usually 420D or 630D), tensile strength, and tear resistance. Ensure the fabric has a consistent air permeability rating, as this determines the inflation and deflation speed critical for safety. For side-curtain airbags, look for silicone-coated fabrics which provide superior heat resistance and gas-tightness.

Safety is paramount, so products must adhere to IATF 16949 (Automotive Quality Management Systems). Additionally, verify compliance with ISO 12025 for textile testing and FMVSS 302 (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard) for flammability. For the European market, ensure the material aligns with REACH regulations regarding chemical substances.

OPW (One-Piece Woven) fabrics are ideal for side curtain airbags due to their seamless construction and high pressure-retention. Flat-woven fabrics (coated or uncoated) are standard for driver and passenger frontal airbags. Beyond automotive use, these fabrics are increasingly sourced for industrial safety gear, maritime life vests, and motorcycle wearable safety tech.

Request a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch. Professional suppliers on Made-in-China.com should provide third-party lab reports covering bursting strength, aging tests (heat/humidity), and coating adhesion. It is highly recommended to perform a flame retardancy test and a dynamic deployment simulation on samples before finalizing bulk contracts.

The biggest risk is material degradation during transit. Ensure the supplier uses moisture-proof vacuum packaging and UV-protected wrapping to prevent the PA66 fibers from weakening. Use Trade Assurance services on Made-in-China.com to secure your payment until the goods pass a third-party pre-shipment inspection (PSI).

Focus on long-term volume commitments rather than one-off spot buys to secure lower prices. Negotiate based on raw material price indexing (e.g., PA66 resin market price) to ensure transparency. Ask for tiered pricing where the unit cost drops by 5-10% as your annual volume increases.

Airbag fabric is heavy and bulky; therefore, FOB (Free On Board) is often preferred so you can control the freight forwarder and costs. Be aware of Anti-Dumping Duties (ADD) that some regions apply to synthetic fiber textiles. Always verify the HS Code (typically 5903.10 or 5407.10) with your local customs broker to calculate accurate import duties.

Prioritize Audited Suppliers on Made-in-China.com, as these factories have undergone on-site verification by independent agencies like SGS or Bureau Veritas. Check their export history to see if they have experience supplying the automotive tier-1 or tier-2 industries, which guarantees a higher level of professional documentation.
