Cetane number improver manufacturers

The most common active ingredient is 2-Ethylhexyl Nitrate (2-EHN). Its primary function is to reduce ignition delay in diesel engines, leading to smoother combustion, reduced engine noise, and lower emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter. High-quality improvers should achieve a 3 to 8 point increase in the Cetane Number depending on the dosage and base fuel quality.

Buyers must verify the purity level (typically ≥99%), moisture content (<0.05%), and flash point (usually >70°C) to ensure safety and efficacy. It is critical to request a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch and ensure the product meets ASTM D975 or EN 590 standards for diesel fuel additives.

Cetane improvers are thermally sensitive. They should be stored in cool, well-ventilated warehouses away from direct sunlight and heat sources. If the temperature exceeds 60°C, the product may begin to decompose, losing its effectiveness and potentially creating pressure buildup in storage containers. Stainless steel or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) tanks are recommended for long-term storage.

As a chemical product, it must be accompanied by a comprehensive Safety Data Sheet (SDS/MSDS). It is classified under UN Class 3 (Flammable Liquid) or Class 9 (Environmentally Hazardous) depending on the concentration. Ensure the supplier provides GHS-compliant labeling and holds REACH registration if exporting to the European Union.

This product is often classified as Dangerous Goods (DG). You must ensure the supplier is experienced in DG packaging and labeling to avoid customs seizures. Use specialized chemical logistics providers and confirm that the shipping line accepts IMO Class 3/9 cargo. Always verify the IMDG Code requirements for sea freight to prevent maritime safety delays.

Utilize secured payment terms and consider third-party inspections (such as SGS or Intertek) at the loading port to verify quantity and quality before final payment. When sourcing via Made-in-China.com, prioritize Audited Suppliers who have undergone rigorous on-site factory checks to mitigate the risk of receiving sub-standard chemical dilutions.

Prices are heavily influenced by raw material costs (octanol and nitric acid). Negotiate based on volume-based pricing tiers; for example, purchasing in ISO tanks instead of 200L drums can reduce unit costs by 10-15%. Request a formula-based pricing model linked to global chemical indices for long-term contracts to ensure transparency.

Ensure the HS Code (typically 3811.19) is correctly declared. Provide a Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and a Non-Doping Certificate if required by local environmental agencies. Failure to provide accurate chemical composition declarations can lead to heavy fines and mandatory laboratory testing at the border, increasing demurrage costs.
