When evaluating stretch film, you must focus on Gauge (Thickness), Stretch Ratio, and Resin Quality. For standard palletizing, a thickness of 12-20 microns (47-80 gauge) is common. High-performance films should offer a pre-stretch capability of 200% to 300%, which significantly reduces material consumption. Ensure the supplier uses 100% Virgin LLDPE (Linear Low-Density Polyethylene) to guarantee maximum clarity, puncture resistance, and load-retention force.

How do I choose between Cast Stretch Film and Blown Stretch Film?

Cast Stretch Film is produced using a continuous cooling process, resulting in excellent clarity, quiet discharge, and lower cost, making it ideal for general warehouse use. Blown Stretch Film, while noisier and more expensive, offers superior puncture resistance and higher cling strength, which is essential for heavy, irregular-shaped loads or cold-storage environments.

What compliance standards and quality certifications are necessary for international trade?

For food-grade applications, the film must comply with FDA (US) or EC 1935/2004 (EU) regulations. General industrial film should meet ISO 9001 for manufacturing consistency. If you are shipping to Europe, ensure the product is REACH and RoHS compliant to avoid customs delays related to chemical additives or heavy metals.

How can I verify the 'Cling' and 'Tear Resistance' of the film before a bulk purchase?

Request a Dart Drop Test report to measure impact resistance and an Elongation at Break test to verify elasticity. A high-quality film should have one-sided cling to prevent pallets from sticking together during transit. Always ask for a sample roll to test on your specific wrapping machinery to ensure compatibility with your tension settings.

Cross-Border Procurement & Risk Management for Stretch Film

What are the common risks when purchasing stretch film from overseas suppliers?

The primary risk is 'Short-weighting' or 'Short-length', where the actual roll length or net weight is less than advertised. Always specify the Net Weight (excluding the paper core) in your contract. Another risk is UV degradation; if the film is stored in sunlight during transit or at the port, it can become brittle. Ensure the supplier uses UV-stabilized additives if the goods will be exposed to outdoor elements.

How should I negotiate pricing and MOQs with suppliers on Made-in-China.com?

Stretch film pricing is highly sensitive to crude oil and polyethylene resin market fluctuations. Negotiate a formula-based pricing model for long-term contracts. For MOQs, most professional manufacturers require 1 to 5 tons for custom sizes, but you can often secure lower MOQs for standard 500mm widths by consolidating your order with their existing production runs.

What are the best practices for shipping and logistics to ensure product integrity?

Stretch film rolls are heavy and susceptible to edge damage, which causes the film to tear during application. Insist on vertical palletization with protective edge boards and shrink-wrapping the entire pallet. For sea freight, use FCL (Full Container Load) whenever possible to minimize handling, and ensure the container is dry to prevent core softening due to humidity.

How can I ensure transaction security and quality assurance?

Utilize Secured Trading Services provided by Made-in-China.com to protect your payment until shipment. Hire a third-party inspection agency (like SGS or Intertek) to perform a 'During Production Check' (DUPRO) to verify the micrometer thickness and roll weight before the final balance is paid.
