Its main functional advantage is that it requires no heating or heavy machinery; it can be compacted using a hand tamper or a vibrating plate. It is ready for immediate traffic after compaction, significantly reducing road closure times compared to traditional hot mix asphalt.

High-quality Cold Asphalt should have a shelf life of at least 12 to 24 months when stored in its original, unopened packaging. Ask the supplier about the packaging integrity—typically UV-resistant plastic bags (20kg/25kg) or airtight drums.
