Containers for sale manufacturers

When sourcing containers, you must verify the Corten Steel (SPA-H) quality, which is the industry standard for corrosion resistance. Ensure the floor thickness is at least 28mm, typically made of marine-grade plywood. For specialized needs, check the tare weight versus maximum payload to ensure it meets your cargo requirements. If purchasing refrigerated units (Reefers), prioritize Daikin, Carrier, or Thermo King cooling units for reliability.

Buyers should choose based on the 'Condition Code': 'One-Trip' containers are virtually new and ideal for modular housing or high-end storage; 'Cargo Worthy' (CW) units are inspected and certified for international shipping under CSC standards; 'Wind and Watertight' (WWT) units are suitable for static storage but may not be fit for sea freight. Always request a CSC (Convention for Safe Containers) plate validity of at least 6-12 months.

All containers used for transport must comply with ISO 6346 for coding and identification. They must possess a valid CSC Plate to be legally loaded onto a vessel. For modified containers (offices, cafes), ensure they meet local building codes and fire safety regulations (such as ASTM or EN standards) and that any electrical installations are CE or UL certified depending on the destination market.

Request a 'Light Test' video where a person inside the closed container checks for pinholes of light, indicating leaks. Ask for high-resolution photos of the corner castings, door gaskets, and locking bars, as these are the most critical mechanical parts. Ensure there is no major structural bowing (more than 25mm) on the side panels, which could affect stacking safety.

The biggest risk is 'Ghost Containers' or identity theft, where scammers pose as legitimate depots. To mitigate this, use Made-in-China.com's audited supplier reports to verify the company's physical existence. Another risk is excessive rust or structural fatigue hidden by a fresh coat of paint; always insist on a third-party pre-shipment inspection (PSI) by firms like SGS or BV.

Shipping an empty container is expensive. The most professional strategy is 'One-Way Leasing' or 'Cabotage', where you allow a shipping line or freight forwarder to use your container to move cargo to your destination. This can reduce or even eliminate your ocean freight costs. Alternatively, consider 'Flat-Rack' stacking if buying multiple units to optimize vessel space.

Focus on Volume Tier Pricing; for orders over 10 units, you should expect a 5-10% discount. Negotiate for Free Storage Time at the departure port (usually 7-14 days) to avoid early demurrage. For payment, use Secure Payment services or a Letter of Credit (L/C) for large-scale orders to ensure funds are only released upon proof of the Bill of Lading and CSC certification.

Containers are often classified under HS Code 8609.00. In many jurisdictions, containers used as 'instruments of international traffic' may be exempt from certain import duties, but if they are being imported for permanent domestic use (e.g., as a building), VAT and standard import tariffs will apply. Consult a customs broker to confirm if a Temporary Admission bond is applicable for your use case.
