Custom machine manufacturers

When sourcing custom machinery, you must provide a detailed Technical Requirement Document (TRD). This includes Production Capacity (units per hour), Precision Tolerances (e.g., ±0.01mm), and Material Compatibility. Ensure the supplier specifies the brand of core components (such as PLC, motors, and sensors) to ensure long-term reliability and ease of sourcing replacement parts.

Verify that the manufacturer adheres to ISO 9001 for quality management. For specific markets, ensure compliance with the CE Marking (Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC) for Europe or UL/ANSI standards for the United States. Always request Material Test Reports (MTRs) and Safety Component Certificates before the assembly phase begins.

A Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) is non-negotiable for custom equipment. It allows you to verify that the machine operates according to your pre-defined functional specifications before it leaves the factory. You should require a video demonstration or hire a third-party inspector to witness the machine running at full load to identify any logic errors or mechanical defects early.

Look for suppliers on Made-in-China.com that hold patents related to your specific industry. Review their past project portfolio to see if they have handled similar complexity. A professional supplier should provide 3D CAD drawings and a detailed project timeline (Gantt chart) within the quotation stage to demonstrate their engineering depth.

The biggest risks include Intellectual Property (IP) leakage, specification misunderstandings, and shipping damage. To mitigate these, sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA), use detailed bilingual contracts, and ensure the machine is packed in vacuum-sealed foil within fumigated wooden crates to prevent corrosion during sea freight.

Avoid 100% upfront payments. A standard B2B structure for custom machinery is 30% deposit to start production, 60% after successful FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) and before shipment, and the final 10% as a retention fund after installation or the warranty period. Use Trade Assurance services on Made-in-China.com to secure your transaction.

Focus negotiations on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the purchase price. Negotiate for extended warranties (24 months instead of 12), a wear-parts package included for the first year, and free remote technical support. Clarify who bears the cost of on-site installation and engineer travel expenses upfront.

Confirm the Incoterms clearly; CIF or DDP are often preferred for buyers who want the supplier to handle the complexities of international shipping. Ensure the supplier provides an Installation Manual and Circuit Diagrams in English. For complex systems, negotiate for Virtual Reality (VR) remote installation guidance or augmented reality support if physical travel is restricted.
