Double face sheepskin manufacturers

When sourcing Double Face Sheepskin (shearling), the most critical factor is the integration of the wool and leather sides, as they must be a single natural layer. Look for high wool density (fibers per square inch) and a uniform pile height, typically ranging from 10mm to 20mm depending on the application. The leather side (suede or nappa finish) should be supple, free of scars, and exhibit excellent color fastness to prevent dye migration onto clothing.

For luxury garments, Merino sheepskin is the industry gold standard due to its exceptionally fine wool and lightweight pelt. For footwear like boots, Toscana or Australian crossbreed sheepskin is preferred for its robustness and superior thermal insulation. Ensure the supplier specifies the origin, as Spanish and Australian raw skins are highly regarded for their processing quality and durability.

To ensure market access and consumer safety, products must comply with REACH regulations (EU) or CPSIA (US), specifically regarding Formaldehyde and Chromium VI levels, which are common byproducts of the tanning process. Prioritize suppliers with LWG (Leather Working Group) certification or OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which guarantee environmentally responsible tanning practices and the absence of harmful azo dyes.

Genuine sheepskin features a natural skin pore structure on the leather side and wool that is physically attached to the pelt, not glued to a fabric backing. A burn test on a small wool sample should result in the smell of burnt hair and brittle ash, whereas synthetic fibers will melt and smell like plastic. Additionally, genuine shearling offers natural breathability and moisture-wicking properties that faux materials cannot replicate.

Sheepskin is a natural product, so slight variations are inevitable. To manage this, define a 'Golden Sample' before mass production and stipulate a strict grading system in your contract. Utilize third-party inspection services at the supplier's warehouse to check for bald spots, pelt thickness consistency, and color matching across different batches before final payment.

Focus on the yield per skin (square footage) rather than just the unit price, as smaller or irregularly shaped skins increase cutting waste. Negotiate based on seasonal cycles; purchasing during the 'off-season' (spring/summer) can often secure 10-15% discounts. For large-scale orders, request tiered pricing and ask the supplier to provide detailed packing lists specifying the total square footage of each bale.

Sheepskin is highly susceptible to moisture and mold. Ensure the supplier uses silica gel desiccant packets and vacuum-sealed or moisture-proof inner packaging. For sea freight, specify 'Top Stowage' to avoid crushing the wool pile. Upon arrival, skins should be stored in a temperature-controlled, dry environment and hung or laid flat to prevent permanent creasing.

Always use secure payment methods such as Letters of Credit (L/C) for large volumes or Escrow-based services provided by reputable platforms. We recommend sourcing through Made-in-China.com, utilizing their Audit Reports and 'Diamond Member' verification to vet the manufacturer's production capacity and legal standing. Never wire full payments to unverified personal accounts.
