Always request GSM (Grams per Square Meter) specifications to ensure the cards do not feel flimsy, and verify that the paper is FSC-certified if your brand emphasizes sustainability.

To differentiate products, look for suppliers offering Foil Stamping (Gold, Silver, Rose Gold), Letterpress, or Thermography for raised textures. For intricate designs, Laser Cutting is essential but requires a check on charring or burn marks on the edges. Ensure the supplier uses high-resolution offset printing (300 DPI minimum) rather than low-grade digital printing to avoid pixelation in fine floral or script patterns.

International trade in paper products often requires compliance with REACH (EU) or CPSIA (US) regarding lead and phthalate content in inks and glitters. Ensure the supplier provides MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) for any specialized adhesives or coatings. For eco-conscious markets, prioritize soy-based inks and recycled content certifications to meet the growing demand for 'green' stationery.

Color variance is a common risk in printing. You must require the supplier to use the Pantone Matching System (PMS) rather than relying on CMYK screen previews. Request a pre-production sample (PPS) and specify a Delta E (ΔE) color tolerance of <2.0. This ensures that the invitation, RSVP cards, and envelopes all match perfectly across different production runs.

Paper products are highly susceptible to moisture and corner damage. Insist on shrink-wrapping small bundles of invitations before placing them into 5-layer corrugated export cartons. Use corner protectors and ensure the total weight per carton does not exceed 15kg to prevent the bottom boxes from collapsing under pressure during sea freight.

Focus on plate-making fees and MOQ flexibility. Many suppliers charge a one-time fee for custom foil dies; negotiate for this fee to be waived on repeat orders or orders exceeding 5,000 units. Additionally, ask for bundled pricing that includes envelopes and liners, as sourcing these separately often increases logistics costs and risks color mismatching.

When sending original artwork to a supplier, ensure you have a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). Clearly state in the contract that the copyright of the designs remains with the buyer and that the supplier is prohibited from displaying your custom designs in their online showroom or selling 'overrun' stock to other clients.

For orders under 100kg, Air Express (DHL/FedEx) is preferred to maintain paper crispness and meet tight event deadlines. However, for bulk stock (over 500kg), Sea Freight (LCL) is significantly more economical. When using sea freight, always include desiccant silica gel packs inside the packaging to prevent paper warping due to humidity in the shipping container.
