Liquorice root manufacturers

Buyers should prioritize the Glycyrrhizic Acid content, which is the primary active compound; high-quality industrial or pharmaceutical grade root typically contains between 4% and 10%. Additionally, check for moisture content (ideally below 12%) to prevent mold growth during transit, and ensure the roots are free from heavy metals (Lead, Arsenic, Mercury) and pesticide residues, adhering to Pharmacopoeia standards (USP, EP, or CP).

Liquorice is available as Natural Roots (sticks), Cut/Sifted pieces, or Fine Powder. For extraction purposes, crushed roots are more cost-effective, while powdered forms require stricter verification of purity and anti-caking agents. If sourcing for the food industry, ensure the product is GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) certified; for cosmetics, look for Glabridin-rich extracts which offer skin-whitening properties.

Depending on the destination, you must verify Phytosanitary Certificates issued by the exporting country's plant protection organization. For the US market, FDA registration is essential, while the EU requires compliance with REACH and EFSA regulations. If the product is marketed as organic, a USDA Organic or EU Organic certification is mandatory to justify premium pricing.

Liquorice root is highly hygroscopic. It must be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse away from direct sunlight. When sourcing, confirm that the supplier uses UV-protected or moisture-proof packaging (such as multi-layer Kraft bags or woven bags with PE liners). Under optimal conditions, the shelf life is typically 24 to 36 months.

Adulteration with starch or inferior plant species is a common risk. Always request a COA (Certificate of Analysis) from a third-party lab like SGS or Intertek before shipment. For long-term partnerships, use Made-in-China.com's 'Audited Supplier' reports to verify the manufacturer's production capacity and authenticity.

Liquorice prices fluctuate based on harvest seasons (typically autumn). Lock in annual contracts during harvest peaks to secure lower rates. For new buyers, negotiate a lower MOQ for the first trial order to test quality, but aim for Full Container Loads (FCL) in the long run to significantly reduce the landed cost per kilogram.

Ensure the shipping container is dry and free of odors, as liquorice easily absorbs surrounding scents. Request silica gel desiccant bags be placed inside the container to manage humidity during sea freight. Always clarify Incoterms (FOB or CIF); for botanicals, CIF is often preferred for beginners to ensure the supplier handles the complex export documentation and insurance.

Avoid direct wire transfers to unknown accounts. Utilize Secured Trading Services provided by reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com to ensure payments are only released after the Bill of Lading (B/L) is confirmed. This protects the buyer against non-delivery or significant quality discrepancies.
