Naphthalene balls manufacturers

When sourcing naphthalene balls, the purity level is the most critical factor; look for products with a purity of 99% or higher to ensure effective sublimation and minimal residue. The melting point should be approximately 80°C, and the balls should be pure white in color, as any yellowing indicates impurities or degradation. For B2B buyers, it is essential to specify the evaporation rate, which determines the product's longevity in storage environments.

Naphthalene is classified as a hazardous substance, so you must ensure the supplier provides a valid Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch. For the EU market, compliance with REACH regulations is mandatory. For the US market, the product must meet EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) labeling requirements. Ensure the packaging features child-resistant closures and clear toxicological warnings to meet international safety benchmarks.

Due to the high volatility and sublimation of naphthalene, packaging must be airtight and moisture-proof. High-quality suppliers use double-layered PE (polyethylene) bags or laminated foil pouches inside reinforced corrugated cartons. To prevent weight loss during transit, verify that the outer packaging is hermetically sealed to contain odors and chemical vapors, which is a requirement for IMDG (International Maritime Dangerous Goods) shipping.

Naphthalene balls are primarily used for pest control (moths, silverfish) and deodorization in long-term storage of textiles, leather, and paper. Unlike camphor, which is often used for medicinal or religious purposes, naphthalene is a synthetic hydrocarbon with a much stronger insecticidal effect. Buyers should ensure the intended application is for industrial or household storage and not for direct contact with food or skin-sensitive medical items.

Naphthalene is classified under UN 1334, Class 4.1 (Flammable Solids). You must work with a freight forwarder experienced in Dangerous Goods (DG) handling. Ensure the supplier provides a Dangerous Goods Declaration and uses UN-certified packaging. Shipping via Sea Freight is the most economical and standard method, as air freight for Class 4.1 solids is highly restricted and expensive.

To ensure transaction security, use Trade Assurance services provided by reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com. Always request a pre-shipment inspection (PSI) by a third party like SGS or Intertek to verify the net weight and purity before final payment. This prevents the common risk of receiving 'underweight' shipments due to sublimation or low-quality fillers.

Since naphthalene is a petroleum byproduct, prices fluctuate with crude oil markets. Negotiate for formula-based pricing or lock in rates during market lows. For orders exceeding 5-10 tons, aim for a 10-15% discount off the spot price. Additionally, negotiate for customized retail packaging (OEM) to be included in the bulk price to increase your retail margin.

The most common pitfall is incorrect HS Code classification. Ensure your supplier uses HS Code 2902.90 (or the specific local variant for naphthalene). Failure to declare the product as a hazardous chemical can lead to heavy fines, shipment seizure, or environmental penalties at the port of entry. Always verify the import permit requirements of your specific country before the vessel departs.
