Phosphoric acid catalyst manufacturers

When evaluating a Phosphoric Acid Catalyst (typically solid phosphoric acid or SPA), you must prioritize Active Content (P2O5 concentration), which usually ranges between 60% to 75%. Additionally, check the Crushing Strength (minimum 50-80 N/cm) to ensure the catalyst doesn't disintegrate under high pressure, and the Specific Surface Area, which directly impacts the catalytic efficiency in processes like polymerization or alkylation.

Suppliers must provide a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) compliant with GHS standards. For international trade, ensure the manufacturer holds ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental standards. If the catalyst is used in food-grade processing (e.g., vegetable oil refining), it must meet FCC (Food Chemicals Codex) or equivalent regional food safety certifications.

Phosphoric acid catalysts are commonly supplied as extruded pellets, granules, or supported on Kieselguhr (diatomaceous earth). Pellet size uniformity is critical to prevent pressure drops within the reactor. For high-flow industrial applications, a cylindrical shape with a diameter of 3mm to 5mm is standard to balance reactivity and mechanical stability.

Phosphoric acid is highly hygroscopic. The catalyst must be stored in hermetically sealed, moisture-proof packaging (typically plastic-lined steel drums). A high-quality catalyst should have a shelf life of at least 12–24 months if kept in a cool, dry environment. Exposure to humidity will lead to phosphoric acid leaching and loss of structural integrity.

The main risk is chemical leakage and moisture contamination. Phosphoric acid is classified as a Class 8 Corrosive Substance under the IMDG Code. You must ensure the supplier uses UN-certified packaging and provides a Certificate for Safe Transport of Chemical Goods. Failure to declare it as Dangerous Goods (DG) can lead to heavy fines and shipment seizure at customs.

Prioritize Audited Suppliers who have undergone third-party onsite inspections by SGS or TÜV Rheinland. Request a Batch Analysis Report (COA) for the most recent production run. For large-scale B2B contracts, it is advisable to use Secured Trading services offered by the platform to ensure payment is only released upon verification of shipping documents and quality compliance.

Negotiate based on P2O5 purity levels and volume-based pricing tiers. Since raw material costs for phosphorus fluctuate, consider a formula-based pricing agreement for long-term contracts. Always request a pre-shipment sample (500g - 1kg) for lab testing; the cost of the sample is usually deductible from the first Full Container Load (FCL) order.

For shipments to the US or EU, ensure the supplier is compliant with REACH (Europe) or TSCA (USA) regulations. Due to the weight and hazardous nature, Sea Freight (FCL) is the most economical method. Ensure the Bill of Lading clearly states the HS Code (typically 381519) to avoid tariff misclassification and delays during Customs Clearance.
