Prickly pear extract manufacturers

Buyers should prioritize extracts standardized for Polysaccharides (typically 20-50%), Flavonoids, and Betalains. For weight management applications, look for NeOpuntia® equivalent fiber content. Ensure the extraction ratio (e.g., 10:1 or 20:1) is clearly defined and that the powder has a mesh size of 80-100 for optimal solubility in supplements or cosmetics.

Suppliers must provide ISO 22000 or HACCP certifications for food safety. For entry into the US market, FDA registration and GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status are critical. For the EU, compliance with EFSA regulations and REACH (if used in cosmetics) is required. Always request a Certificate of Analysis (COA) and a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for every batch.

Request High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) or Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) test reports to verify the botanical identity. Ensure the extract is free from heavy metals (Lead <3.0ppm, Arsenic <2.0ppm) and pesticide residues, adhering to USP or EP standards. Third-party testing by labs like SGS or Eurofins is highly recommended for bulk first-time orders.

Water-soluble powders are ideal for functional beverages and dietary supplements aimed at blood sugar regulation and antioxidant support. Oil-soluble versions (often derived from the seeds) are premium ingredients for anti-aging skincare due to high Vitamin E and Vitamin K content. Ensure the carrier (like maltodextrin) is disclosed if you require a Clean Label product.

The primary risks include batch-to-batch inconsistency and microbial contamination (Total Plate Count >1000 cfu/g). To mitigate this, use Trade Assurance services on platforms like Made-in-China.com to ensure payment is only released upon quality verification. Always start with a pre-shipment sample that is sealed and kept as a reference for the bulk delivery.

Standard MOQs for extracts usually range from 10kg to 25kg (one drum). Negotiate a tiered pricing structure where the price drops by 15-20% as you move from trial orders to metric ton volumes. Ask for FOB (Free On Board) pricing to maintain control over your shipping costs and choose a freight forwarder experienced in handling sensitive biological powders.

Prickly Pear Extract is hygroscopic (absorbs moisture). Ensure the supplier uses double-layer food-grade PE bags inside fiber drums. For shipping to humid climates, request vacuum packaging and desiccants. The product should be stored in a cool, dark, and dry environment; verify that the supplier’s warehouse meets these conditions to prevent clumping or degradation during transit.

Conduct transactions through verified premium suppliers on Made-in-China.com who have undergone on-site audits. If you are requesting a custom formulation (e.g., a specific blend ratio), ensure a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) is signed before sharing proprietary specifications to prevent your formula from being sold to competitors.
