The choice of printing technology depends heavily on the fabric composition. For 100% cotton, Direct-to-Garment (DTG) or Screen Printing is ideal as the ink absorbs well into natural fibers. For polyester or high-synthetic blends, Sublimation Printing is the gold standard because it fuses the ink into the fabric, ensuring it never cracks or peels. If you require high-detail, small-batch designs on various fabrics, Direct-to-Film (DTF) is currently the most versatile and cost-effective technology in the market.

Buyers should focus on fabric weight (GSM) and yarn count. A standard retail T-shirt usually ranges from 160 to 200 GSM; anything lower may be too sheer, while higher weights are preferred for 'streetwear' styles. Ensure the supplier uses combed cotton rather than carded cotton to prevent pilling and provide a smoother surface for printing. Additionally, verify the colorfastness rating (Grade 4 or higher) to ensure the shirt doesn't bleed during the first wash.

To ensure market entry and consumer safety, prioritize suppliers with OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification, which guarantees the garment and the printing inks are free from harmful chemicals. For the US market, compliance with CPSIA (especially for children's wear) is mandatory. If your brand focuses on sustainability, look for GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) or GRS (Global Recycled Standard) to validate eco-friendly claims.

Request wash test reports from the supplier. A high-quality printed T-shirt should withstand at least 25 to 50 industrial wash cycles without significant fading or cracking. For screen printing, ask about the curing temperature and time; for DTG/DTF, ensure a high-quality pretreatment solution was used. Always request a pre-production sample to conduct your own 'stretch test' and 'scratch test' on the print area.

Digital screens display colors differently (RGB vs CMYK). To avoid disputes, always provide the supplier with Pantone Matching System (PMS) codes for your brand colors. Insist on a Golden Sample (final approved sample) before mass production begins, and use it as the benchmark for Third-Party Inspection (PSI).

Focus on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the unit price. Negotiate based on volume tiers—for example, a 500-unit order should yield a 10-15% discount compared to a 100-unit order. Ask for inclusive pricing that covers labels, hangtags, and individual polybagging to avoid hidden 'add-on' fees later in the transaction.

Before sharing high-resolution artwork, have the supplier sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). Ensure your contract explicitly states that the intellectual property of the designs remains with the buyer and that the supplier is prohibited from selling overruns or 'seconds' featuring your artwork to other third parties.

For orders under 100kg, Air Express (DHL/FedEx/UPS) is fastest but expensive. For mid-sized orders (100kg-500kg), Air Freight is a balanced choice. For large bulk orders exceeding 500kg, Sea Freight (LCL or FCL) is the most economical. When shipping from China, consider DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) terms if you want the supplier to handle all customs clearances and import duties.
