Saffron extract crocin safranal manufacturers

The quality of Saffron Extract is primarily determined by its concentration of Crocin (responsible for color), Safranal (responsible for aroma), and Picrocrocin (responsible for taste). For B2B procurement, you should prioritize extracts standardized to at least 0.3% Safranal and 5% to 10% Crocin via HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) testing. Ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for every batch to verify these active marker compounds.

As a botanical extract often used in supplements or food, it must meet strict safety standards. Buyers should verify ISO 3632, which is the specific international standard for saffron purity. Additionally, ensure the manufacturer holds GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), HACCP, and ISO 22000 certifications. For specific markets, FDA registration (USA) or EFSA compliance (EU) is essential, along with Halal or Kosher certifications if targeting specific dietary demographics.

Adulteration is a major risk in the saffron industry. Professional buyers should request HPLC test reports to ensure no synthetic dyes (like Sudan Red or Metanil Yellow) are present. Authentic extract should have a deep red-orange hue and a characteristic hay-like, slightly metallic aroma. You should also check the solubility; pure extract should dissolve completely in water, leaving a clear, bright yellow liquid without sediment.

Saffron Extract is highly versatile. In the nutraceutical industry, it is used for mood enhancement, sleep aids, and eye health supplements. In the cosmetic industry, it is valued for its antioxidant and skin-brightening properties. In the food and beverage sector, it serves as a natural colorant and premium flavoring agent. Understanding your specific application helps in choosing the right carrier (e.g., maltodextrin) and solubility grade.

The biggest risks are quality degradation during transit and adulteration. To mitigate these, use vacuum-sealed, light-proof aluminum foil packaging to prevent oxidation. Always use Trade Assurance services on Made-in-China.com to protect your payment until the quality is verified. It is highly recommended to hire a third-party inspection agency (like SGS or Intertek) to perform random sampling at the factory before the balance payment is made.

Saffron is the world's most expensive spice, so unusually low prices are a red flag for synthetic substitutes. Negotiate based on the concentration of active ingredients rather than just weight. For long-term partnerships, request a tiered pricing structure where the price drops as your annual volume increases. For new buyers, start with a small sample order (1-5kg) to test the market and lab-verify the potency before committing to a large contract.

Saffron Extract is a high-value, low-volume product, making Air Freight (DHL/FedEx/UPS) the most economical and safest method to reduce transit time. Ensure the HS Code (typically 1302.19) is correctly declared to avoid customs delays. You must provide a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and a Phytosanitary Certificate to clear customs smoothly in most countries. Ensure the supplier labels the cargo as 'Sensitive' to ensure careful handling.
