Scrap tinplate manufacturers

Buyers should focus on the chemical composition (specifically the tin coating thickness, usually measured in g/m²) and the base steel grade. Ensure the scrap is categorized correctly, such as bundles, loose sheets, or skeleton scrap. It is vital to verify the impurity levels (non-metallic inclusions) and ensure the material is free from excessive rust, oil, or hazardous contaminants that could affect the smelting or recycling process.

Suppliers should ideally hold ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental management. For international trade, ensure the material complies with ISRI (Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries) specifications. Furthermore, check for Radiation-Free Certificates and Pre-shipment Inspection Certificates (such as CCIC for China-bound cargo) to ensure the scrap meets the destination country's environmental import regulations.

Calculate the yield rate (the amount of usable metal after processing). A high-quality scrap tinplate should offer a yield of 95% or higher. Compare the price against the LME (London Metal Exchange) steel and tin indices. Request photos and videos of the actual loading process and, if possible, a third-party assay report (SGS or Intertek) to confirm the tin-to-steel ratio, as this significantly impacts the scrap's market value.

Scrap tinplate is primarily used as a secondary raw material in electric arc furnaces (EAF) for steel production. It is also used in detinning plants to recover pure tin and high-quality steel scrap. In some downstream industries, it is repurposed for small metal stampings, washers, or construction reinforcements, provided the mechanical properties meet the specific application requirements.

The biggest risks include material substitution (receiving lower-grade scrap than ordered) and weight discrepancies. To mitigate this, always use reputable sourcing platforms like Made-in-China.com to vet suppliers. Implement Trade Assurance or Letter of Credit (L/C) payment terms, and mandate a certified weighbridge ticket from the port of loading.

Negotiate for staggered payment terms, such as a small deposit with the balance paid against scanned copies of the Bill of Lading (B/L) and inspection reports. Clearly define the 'Outturn' clause in the contract, which allows for price adjustments if the weight or quality at the discharge port differs significantly from the loading port report.

Scrap tinplate is usually shipped in 20ft containers to maximize weight capacity. Ensure the supplier uses heavy-duty containers and proper moisture protection (like silica gel or liners) if the scrap is high-value detinned material. Confirm the Incoterms; CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) is common, but FOB (Free On Board) gives the buyer more control over the shipping timeline and costs.

Many countries have strict Green Fence or National Sword policies regarding solid waste. You must verify if the scrap tinplate is classified as 'waste' or 'resource' in your country. Ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Origin to benefit from potential Free Trade Agreement (FTA) tariff exemptions, and check for any anti-dumping duties applicable to steel products from the exporting region.
