High-end silk duvets should be hand-pulled and layered in a criss-cross pattern to prevent shifting or clumping over time. Avoid 'quilted' silk duvets where the stitching goes through the silk, as this can damage the long fibers; instead, look for loop-attachment points or minimal 'point-stitching' that keeps the silk in place without compromising its loft and insulation properties.

The most significant risk is material substitution, where suppliers blend mulberry silk with polyester or viscose to lower costs. To mitigate this, use third-party inspection services (like SGS or Intertek) to perform random sampling during production. Another risk is moisture damage during sea freight; ensure the supplier uses vacuum-sealed PE packaging and includes desiccant silica gel packs to prevent mold growth during long-duration shipping.

Focus on tiered pricing based on silk weight rather than just unit price. Request a breakdown of the BOM (Bill of Materials) to understand the cost of the silk vs. the shell fabric. For first-time orders, negotiate a 30% deposit and 70% balance payment against the Bill of Lading (B/L) or use secured payment services provided by the platform to ensure transaction security. Mentioning a long-term partnership can often secure a 5-10% discount on MOQs exceeding 500 units.

Silk duvets are high-volume but low-weight items. To optimize shipping costs, require the supplier to use industrial vacuum compression packaging, which can reduce the volume by up to 60-70%, significantly lowering CBM-based freight charges. However, advise the end-customer to air out the duvet for 24 hours after unpacking to regain its natural loft.
