Used gas turbine manufacturers

Buyers must prioritize the Total Running Hours (TRH) and Starts/Stops count, as these directly impact the remaining life of the hot gas path components. It is essential to verify the ISO Base Rating (MW), Heat Rate (kJ/kWh), and Exhaust Temperature. Ensure the turbine is compatible with your local Grid Frequency (50Hz or 60Hz) and check if the Fuel System supports your available supply (e.g., Natural Gas, Diesel, or Dual-fuel).

Request a comprehensive Borescope Inspection (BI) report and the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) service logs. Look for evidence of Major Overhauls (MO) and Hot Gas Path Inspections (HGPI). A high-quality used unit should come with a Zero-hour overhaul certification if it is marketed as 'refurbished.' Always confirm if the Control System (e.g., Mark VIe, Woodward) is up-to-date or requires an expensive retrofit.

The equipment must meet local NOx and CO emission limits, which may require the presence of Dry Low NOx (DLN) burners or Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems. Ensure the unit complies with ASME or CE pressure vessel standards for the heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) if applicable. For cross-border trade, a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) certificate is often mandatory to prove the machinery is not 'electronic waste' but functional industrial equipment.

Used gas turbines typically offer a 40-60% reduction in CAPEX and significantly shorter lead times (weeks vs. 12-18 months for new units). However, buyers must factor in the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), including dismantling, refurbishment, shipping, and site integration. A unit with a lower purchase price but high Heat Rate (lower efficiency) may result in higher long-term operational costs due to fuel consumption.

The biggest risks include hidden mechanical defects and missing documentation. To mitigate this, use Escrow payment services or Letters of Credit (L/C) that release funds only upon successful third-party inspection at the loading port. Avoid full advance payments. We highly recommend sourcing through verified 'Diamond Members' or 'Audited Suppliers' on Made-in-China.com to ensure supplier legitimacy.

Negotiate for a 'Critical Spare Parts Package' (e.g., fuel nozzles, filters, and sensors) to be included in the sale price. Since used equipment is often sold 'as-is,' try to secure a limited operational warranty (e.g., 6 months or 2,000 operating hours) contingent upon the supplier's team supervising the Installation and Commissioning (I&C).

Gas turbines are Out-of-Gauge (OOG) cargo and require specialized Heavy Lift vessels. Ensure the supplier provides a detailed Packing List and Moisture Protection (Vacuum sealing/Shrink wrapping) for the rotor and electronics to prevent corrosion during sea transit. Verify the Incoterms clearly; FOB or CIF are standard, but ensure the seller provides the Export License for dual-use industrial goods.

Check for Sanctioned Party Screenings to ensure the equipment origin and the seller are not under international trade restrictions. Utilize third-party inspection agencies like SGS or Intertek to witness the 'Full Load Test' or 'Turning Gear Test' before final payment. Always align the contract with ICC Incoterms 2020 to clearly define the point of risk transfer.
