For Air Handling Units (AHU), the industry standard is typically 6063-T5 or 6063-T6 aluminium alloy. This grade offers an excellent balance of extrudability, corrosion resistance, and surface finish. T5 temper provides sufficient hardness for standard frames, while T6 is recommended for high-pressure systems requiring greater structural rigidity.

To prevent condensation and energy loss, prioritize Thermal Break Profiles featuring Polyamide (PA66GF25) insulation strips. Ensure the profile design supports double-skin panels (typically 25mm, 30mm, or 50mm thickness). The air leakage rate should comply with EN 1886 standards (Class L1 or L2) to ensure maximum system efficiency.

Standard Anodized finishes (10-15 microns) are ideal for general use as they provide a hard, wear-resistant layer. For units placed in coastal or chemically corrosive environments, specify Powder Coating (Qualicoat certified) or Electrophoresis, which offer superior protection against oxidation and chemical salt spray.

Check the wall thickness, which should ideally be between 1.2mm and 2.0mm depending on the unit size. Ensure the profile is compatible with standard PA6 or Aluminum corners (jointers). Request CAD or BIM drawings from the supplier to verify that the grooves and snap-fit mechanisms align with your panel and gasket specifications.

The primary risks include dimensional deviation and surface scratching during transit. To mitigate this, require the supplier to provide a Pre-shipment Inspection (PSI) report confirming tolerances within GB/T 5237 standards. Ensure each profile is individually wrapped in PE protective film and packed in wooden crates or reinforced pallets to prevent bending.

Aluminium pricing is often tied to the LME (London Metal Exchange) or SMM (Shanghai Metals Market) spot price plus a fabrication fee. Negotiate based on the fabrication fee and volume-based discounts. For long-term projects, ask for fixed-price contracts or a formula-based pricing model to hedge against raw material price volatility.

Focus on Audited Suppliers who have undergone third-party onsite inspections by SGS or TÜV Rheinland. Check for ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications. Prioritize manufacturers who offer custom mold development (OEM/ODM services) and have a proven track record of exporting to your specific region to ensure compliance with local building codes.

Since AHU profiles are often 5.8m or 6m long, they require 40ft High Cube (HC) containers. Be aware of Anti-dumping duties (AD) that some countries (like the US or EU) impose on Chinese aluminium extrusions. Always verify the HS Code (typically 7604.21) with your customs broker and ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Origin to potentially benefit from trade agreements.
