Vertical tanks are ideal for facilities with limited floor space, as they utilize height. Horizontal tanks are typically preferred when the tank serves as a base for a compressor mount, providing a lower center of gravity and easier integration into mobile or skid-mounted systems.

The biggest risk is Customs Seizure due to lack of proper certification. Many countries treat air tanks as 'dangerous goods' or 'high-risk equipment.' Ensure the supplier provides a Declaration of Conformity and that the Nameplate is permanently etched with the Serial Number, Design Pressure, and Manufacturing Date in English.

Focus on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the unit price. Negotiate for inclusive third-party inspection fees (e.g., SGS or TÜV) within the quote. For orders exceeding 20 units, aim for a 10-15% volume discount and request spare parts kits (gaskets, valves, gauges) to be included at no extra cost.

Air tanks are bulky and prone to surface damage. Specify heavy-duty wooden crate packaging or steel framing for LCL shipments. For FCL, ensure the tanks are properly lashed and braced to prevent shifting. Always use CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) terms for these items to ensure coverage against transit damage, as structural dents can render a pressure vessel unusable.

Cross-reference the ASME or CE certificate number directly on the issuing body's official website.
