Compliance is non-negotiable. Products must adhere to FAA (Part 23/25) for the US, EASA (CS-23/25) for Europe, or CAAC standards for China-originated exports. Ensure the manufacturer holds an AS9100 quality management certification and provides a Certificate of Airworthiness (CoA) for each unit.

Evaluate the Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC) and compatibility with AVGAS 100LL or Jet A-1. For electric aircraft, focus on battery energy density (Wh/kg) and cycle life. Request dyno test reports and thermal management data to ensure the engine or motor performs under extreme high-altitude or high-temperature conditions.

A reputable supplier should provide a comprehensive Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC) and a Maintenance Planning Document (MPD). Ensure the availability of AOG (Aircraft on Ground) support with a guaranteed response time of under 48 hours and a steady supply chain for consumable spare parts like tires, filters, and spark plugs.

The biggest risk is Export Control Classification (ECCN). Aircraft and components often fall under dual-use goods regulations. Buyers must ensure the supplier provides a valid Export License and that the transaction complies with ITAR (if applicable) or local strategic commodity trade acts to avoid seizure at customs.

Use Irrevocable Letters of Credit (L/C) or Escrow services specifically designed for aviation. Payments should be tied to milestone inspections: a deposit after the Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI), a mid-payment after test flights, and the final balance only upon transfer of title and delivery of all logbooks and records.

For long-distance cross-border transit, disassembly and containerization (Sea Freight) is most cost-effective, but requires certified technicians for reassembly. Alternatively, Ferry Flights are used for operational aircraft, though this involves complex overflight permits and temporary registration (e.g., 'N' or 'B' numbers).

Focus on transparency of the supply chain. Ask for the source of raw materials and sub-tier supplier lists for critical components like sensors or engines. Negotiate for extended airframe warranties (e.g., 2-5 years) and include a clause for onsite technical training for your local mechanics as part of the purchase package.
