While aluminium has a higher upfront cost, it offers a superior strength-to-weight ratio and longer lifespan (up to 50 years) without rusting. This reduces long-term maintenance costs. Calculate the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) by factoring in the reduced structural load on the building frame and the high scrap value of aluminium at the end of its life cycle.

The biggest risk is surface oxidation (white rust) caused by moisture trapped between sheets during sea transit. Ensure the supplier uses waterproof paper wrapping, desiccants, and seaworthy wooden pallets. Request tight steel strapping to prevent friction scratches, and specify that the sheets must be stored in a dry, ventilated area of the vessel.

Hire a third-party inspector to perform a micrometer thickness check at multiple points on the sheet. Verify the quantity count, bundle weight, and perform a T-bend test to check coating adhesion.
