For less sensitive products, Type II or Type III glass may be used, but you must verify compatibility to prevent leaching or delamination.

Ensure the ampoules feature an OPC (One Point Cut) or a color break ring system to guarantee easy and clean opening without glass shards. The stem diameter and wall thickness must be consistent (typically within a ±0.05mm tolerance) to ensure compatibility with automated filling and flame-sealing machines.

Suppliers must adhere to ISO 9187 for glass ampoules and USP <660> or Ph. Eur. 3.2.1 for glass containers used in pharmaceutical packaging. It is mandatory to request COA (Certificate of Analysis) and ensure the manufacturing facility is GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certified.

Pharmaceutical ampoules require Class 100 cleanroom packaging and strict sterilization validation. Cosmetic ampoules focus more on UV protection (amber glass) and aesthetic printing. For both, check for internal surface treatment to ensure the formula does not react with the glass over time.

The biggest risk is physical breakage and contamination. You should mandate double-wall corrugated export cartons and vacuum-sealed plastic tray packaging. Ensure the supplier uses palletized shipping with shrink wrap to minimize handling shocks during transit.

Look for Audited Suppliers who have undergone third-party onsite inspections. Check for ISO 15378 certification, which specifically combines GMP requirements with ISO 9001 for primary packaging materials for medicinal products.

Since ampoules are high-volume items, negotiate based on annual volume commitments rather than one-off orders to secure a 10-20% discount. Request free mold customization if your brand requires a unique shape or specific neck dimensions for specialized filling lines.

Always use Trade Assurance or Letter of Credit (L/C) for large transactions. Include a clause for Pre-shipment Inspection (PSI) by a third party like SGS or Intertek to verify that the alkali release levels and dimensions meet your specifications before final payment.
