Additionally, the vessel must comply with MARPOL (International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships) and be certified by a recognized Classification Society (such as CCS, DNV, or LR). The bridge should be equipped with an Integrated Bridge System (IBS), including ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) and AIS. For passenger safety, verify the redundancy of emergency power generators and the capacity of lifeboats/marine evacuation systems (MES), which must exceed the total number of persons on board by a specific margin (usually 125% for lifeboats).

The primary risks include construction delays, cost overruns, and non-compliance with evolving IMO regulations. To mitigate these, buyers should use staged payment structures linked to verifiable milestones (e.g., steel cutting, keel laying, launching, and sea trials). It is essential to conduct regular third-party site inspections at the shipyard to ensure quality alignment with the initial contract.

When negotiating, focus on the Refund Guarantee, which should be issued by a reputable first-class bank to protect your down payments. Discuss warranty periods (typically 12–24 months post-delivery) and the availability of a guarantee engineer from the yard to stay on board during the first few months of operation. Leverage the platform to compare technical expertise and past delivery records of specialized shipbuilders.

Ensure the contract is based on recognized templates like the SAJ (Shipbuilders' Association of Japan) or NEWBUILDCON forms. Use Escrow accounts for large transfers and ensure all Export Licenses and Certificates of Ownership are cleared of encumbrances before the final protocol of delivery and acceptance is signed.

Delivery is typically handled via 'Delivery at Place' (DAP) at the shipyard.
