Request a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and verify the anti-caking agent used. High-quality DAP/MAP should be treated to prevent clumping in humid environments. Ensure the supplier uses UV-stabilized PP/PE woven bags (25kg, 50kg, or 1000kg jumbo bags) to prevent degradation from sunlight and moisture during sea freight.

Suppliers must provide a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch. Depending on the destination, you may require ISO 9001 certification for quality management and third-party inspection reports (such as SGS or Intertek) to verify heavy metal limits (e.g., Cadmium, Arsenic, and Lead levels) to meet local environmental regulations.

DAP is highly alkaline and best suited for neutral or acidic soils; however, it should not be placed too close to seeds to avoid ammonia burn. MAP has a lower pH, making it ideal for alkaline soils and as a starter fertilizer. For fertigation or foliar spray, ensure you source fully water-soluble technical grade MAP.

The biggest risks are weight shortages and nutrient dilution. Always mandate a Pre-shipment Inspection (PSI) by a reputable agency to verify the net weight and chemical composition at the loading port. Additionally, be aware of fluctuating raw material costs (Ammonia and Phosphoric Acid) which can impact long-term contract pricing.

Focus on tiered pricing based on volume and ask for OEM packaging (custom branding) if you are a distributor. Negotiate for payment terms like LC (Letter of Credit) at sight for large volumes to protect your capital. For first-time orders, request a small sample (1-2kg) for lab testing before committing to a full container load.

Fertilizers are sensitive to moisture. Ensure the shipping container is watertight and free of debris. Use FOB (Free On Board) terms if you have a reliable freight forwarder who understands bulk agricultural commodity handling, or CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) if you want the supplier to manage the risk until the destination port. Always include marine insurance covering 'All Risks'.

Monitor export quotas and tariffs from major producing countries like China, as these can change seasonally to ensure domestic supply. Check your local import permit requirements and customs duty rates for HS Code 3105.30 (DAP) and 3105.40 (MAP) to avoid unexpected costs at the border.
