Key specs include the Evaporation Capacity (kg/h), Heat Source Compatibility (coal, gas, biomass, or electricity), and Final Moisture Content control (typically aiming for 8-12% for pellet production). Ensure the motor has an IP55 protection rating and the drum or pipes are made of wear-resistant carbon steel or stainless steel to withstand the abrasive nature of wood particles.

Since sawdust is highly flammable, the machine must include explosion-proof vents and an automatic temperature control system to prevent fires. For international trade, prioritize suppliers on Made-in-China.com who provide CE Certification for the European market or UL-listed components for North America. Additionally, ensure the equipment complies with ISO 9001:2015 for manufacturing quality management.

The heat source accounts for the largest portion of operating costs. Biomass burners (using your own waste wood/pellets) are the most cost-effective and eco-friendly for long-term operations. Gas burners offer the cleanest combustion and precise control but may have higher fuel costs depending on regional energy prices. Always calculate the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) including fuel consumption per ton of dried material.

Look for the 'Audited Supplier' badge, which indicates the supplier has been verified by third-party institutions like SGS or Bureau Veritas. Review their Audit Report to check their actual production capacity, factory floor space, and R&D capabilities. A supplier with more than 5-10 years of export experience in heavy machinery is generally more reliable.

The primary risks are corrosion during sea transit and mechanical damage due to improper bracing. Require the supplier to use vacuum packaging or anti-rust oil on unpainted surfaces and ensure the machine is firmly bolted to a steel skid inside the container. For large rotary dryers, 40ft FR (Flat Rack) or OT (Open Top) containers may be necessary; confirm the loading plan before the balance payment.

Do not just negotiate on the sticker price; negotiate on the spare parts package (e.g., extra rollers, bearings, and heating elements). Request a performance guarantee clause where a portion of the payment (e.g., 10% via Escrow or Letter of Credit) is released only after the machine reaches the agreed-upon drying capacity during commissioning.

Since sending technicians overseas can be expensive, prioritize suppliers who provide detailed English manuals, 3D installation videos, and remote video support. Confirm if the supplier offers on-site commissioning services and clarify who covers the VISA, airfare, and accommodation costs in the contract to avoid future disputes.
