To ensure legal operation and worker safety, systems should adhere to ISO 15012-1 (health and safety in welding and allied processes) and CE marking for the European market. In the US, compliance with OSHA 1910.94 (ventilation standards) and NFPA 91 (exhaust systems for air conveying of vapors) is critical. Always verify that the electrical components are UL or ETL listed to prevent fire hazards.

The choice depends heavily on the application: Fixed Overhead Systems are best for dedicated workstations like welding bays; Mobile Extraction Units offer flexibility for maintenance shops with varying layouts; and Underfloor Systems are ideal for new facility constructions to maintain a clean aesthetic. For high-load environments like fire stations, Emergency Fast-Release (Pneumatic or Magnetic) nozzles are essential for rapid vehicle deployment.

Regular maintenance should include monthly inspections of hose integrity to check for leaks and quarterly pressure drop tests across filters. Fan blade cleaning is necessary to prevent imbalance and vibration. Suppliers providing comprehensive O&M (Operation and Maintenance) manuals and readily available replacement filters/nozzles should be prioritized to minimize operational downtime.

The main risks include shipping damage to bulky fans/ducts and voltage incompatibility. Ensure the supplier confirms the local voltage and frequency (e.g., 110V/60Hz vs 380V/50Hz) before production. Use reinforced wooden crate packaging for sea freight to prevent structural deformation of the housing.

Focus on Audited Suppliers who have undergone third-party onsite inspections by firms like SGS or Intertek. Review their Export Experience to your specific region and request Material Test Reports (MTR) for the extraction arms and motors to ensure they meet the advertised heat and chemical resistance levels.

Negotiate based on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the unit price. Request spare parts kits (filters, belts, sensors) to be included in the initial quote at a discount. For large projects, propose a staged payment plan (30% deposit, 60% after QC inspection, 10% after successful installation/commissioning) to mitigate financial risk.

Due to the oversized nature of ducting and reels, shipping costs can be high. Ask the supplier if the system can be shipped in SKD (Semi-Knocked Down) format to reduce container volume.
