Specifically, verify that the materials are BPA-free, phthalate-free, and lead-free. For electronic or light-up figures, CE and RoHS certifications are mandatory to ensure electrical safety and environmental compliance.

PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) is the industry standard for mass-produced action figures due to its durability and cost-effectiveness. Resin is preferred for high-end, limited edition statues because it captures intricate details and sharp edges, though it is more brittle. Vinyl (often 'Sofubi') is typically used for designer toys with a hollow, softer feel. Choose based on your target market: PVC for retail/play, and Resin for premium collectors.

For articulated figures, specify the number of points of articulation (POA); high-quality figures usually have 20+ joints for maximum poseability. Regarding aesthetics, request electrostatic painting or pad printing for clean lines. Ensure the supplier uses a UV-resistant topcoat to prevent yellowing or paint degradation over time, especially for display-grade collectibles.

Review the supplier's prototyping process, specifically their proficiency in 3D modeling (ZBrush/Rhino) and 3D printing (SLA/DLP). A professional supplier should provide a pre-production sample (Golden Sample) for approval. Check if they have experience with injection mold opening, as this represents a significant upfront investment and requires high precision to ensure parts fit perfectly.

This is the most critical risk in the figure industry. Never import figures of licensed characters (e.g., Marvel, Anime, Disney) without verifying the supplier's licensing authorization. Customs in many countries will seize and destroy counterfeit goods, and you may face legal action. Always request a Letter of Authorization (LOA) or focus on original designs and 'white-label' products.

Figure production involves high fixed costs for steel molds, which can range from $2,000 to $10,000+ per character. Negotiate a lower unit price by committing to a higher initial volume (MOQ usually 500-1,000 units). Alternatively, ask if the supplier has 'open molds' available, which allows you to customize colors or packaging without paying for new mold development.

Figure boxes are often as valuable as the toy itself to collectors. Insist on double-walled corrugated export cartons and internal corner protectors. For the product packaging, use blister packs or high-density foam inserts to prevent movement. When shipping from China, consider Sea Freight (LCL/FCL) for bulk orders to save costs, but use Air Freight for time-sensitive 'new release' drops.

Always prioritize Audited Suppliers on the platform. Use secured payment terms and consider hiring a third-party inspection service (like V-Trust or QIMA) to perform a During Production Check (DUPRO) or a Final Random Inspection (FRI) before the balance payment is made. This ensures the paint quality and joint tightness meet your specifications before the goods leave the factory.
