If the door is installed outdoors, it must have a channel frame with a drainage coupling (usually 1.5 inches) to divert water to a drain. For high-visibility areas, choose recessed covers designed to accept architectural flooring (tile, carpet, or terrazzo) so the door blends seamlessly with the surroundings. In corrosive environments like wastewater treatment plants, specify a bituminous coating on the exterior frame to prevent electrolytic reactions between aluminum and concrete.

The biggest risks are structural failure due to substandard alloys and high shipping costs. Always request a Material Test Report (MTR) to verify the metal grade. Because these items are heavy, sea freight is the only economical option, but you must ensure the supplier uses fumigated wooden crates and anti-rust VCI packaging to prevent saltwater corrosion during the 30-45 day transit.

Check their export history to your specific country to ensure they understand your local building codes. Your QC agent should perform a load-deflection test to ensure the door doesn't warp under pressure. Verify the weld quality (no porosity or cracks) and the flushness of the door leaf with the frame to prevent tripping hazards. Finally, test the automatic hold-open arm to ensure it locks securely at 90 degrees, as this is a critical safety feature for technicians entering the floor void.
