Electro-galvanization (cold galvanizing) results in a thinner, smoother finish that is more aesthetically pleasing but offers significantly lower corrosion resistance. For outdoor or industrial use, Hot-Dip Galvanized is the industry standard for longevity.

Ensure the products comply with international standards such as ASTM A123 (for hot-dip coatings) or BS EN ISO 1461. For European markets, CE marking is essential for construction products. If the fence is for agricultural use, check for ASTM A116 compliance. Always request a Mill Test Certificate (MTC) from the supplier to verify the chemical composition and coating weight.

For industrial security, choose high-tensile chain-link or 3D curved welded wire panels with anti-climb features. For agricultural livestock, focus on hinge-joint or fixed-knot designs that offer flexibility and impact resistance. For residential areas, aesthetic powder-coated galvanized fences are preferred, combining the rust protection of zinc with a decorative finish.

The most common risk is 'zinc-saving' by suppliers. You should hire a third-party inspection agency (like SGS or Intertek) to perform a coating thickness test using a magnetic gauge before shipment. Ensure your contract specifies that the zinc layer weight must meet the agreed-upon standard, or the batch will be rejected.

Focus on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the unit price. Negotiate based on volume tiers; for example, a full container load (FCL) should yield a 10-15% discount compared to LCL. Ask for free spare parts (clips, bolts, and post caps), which usually account for 3-5% of the total cost but are vital for installation.

Galvanized fences are heavy and prone to 'white rust' (wet storage stain) if exposed to moisture in closed containers. Insist that the supplier uses waterproof packaging and includes desiccants in the container. Ensure the panels are palletized and strapped securely to prevent friction damage to the zinc coating during sea transit.

Many regions, including the US and EU, have specific Section 232 tariffs or anti-dumping duties on Chinese steel products. Before ordering, consult with a customs broker to check the HS Code (typically 7314.xx) against your country's current trade enforcement list to avoid unexpected 30% to 100% duty surcharges.
