For North America, look for CSA or UL certification and compliance with ANSI Z21 series standards. Key safety features must include an Automatic Shut-off Valve, Flame Failure Device (FFD), and Tilt Protection (for portable units). Ensure the supplier provides valid test reports from accredited third-party labs like SGS or Intertek.

Focus on the material grade of the burner, preferably stainless steel 304 or high-grade ceramics to prevent corrosion and heat fatigue. Check the ignition system type; piezoelectric ignition is reliable, while electronic pulse ignition offers more convenience. For outdoor units, the casing should be powder-coated galvanized steel or high-grade stainless steel to withstand humidity. Additionally, verify the gas type compatibility (LPG, Propane, or Natural Gas) and ensure the pressure regulator matches the destination country's local standards.

Analyze the gas consumption rate (g/h or kg/h) relative to the heat output. High-efficiency models often feature infrared radiant plaques which provide more heat with less fuel. Consider the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), including the cost of replacement parts like thermocouples and igniters. For bulk orders, look for suppliers on Made-in-China.com that offer tiered pricing, where moving from 100 to 500 units can often yield a 15-20% reduction in unit cost.

The biggest risks are regulatory seizure at customs due to improper certification and shipping damage to fragile ceramic plates. Mitigate these by requiring pre-shipment inspections (PSI) and ensuring the supplier uses 5-layer corrugated export packaging with molded foam (EPS/EPE) protection. Always use Trade Assurance or secure payment terms to protect your capital until the goods pass quality checks.

Focus your negotiation on component quality and warranty terms rather than just the lowest price. Ask for a 1-2% spare parts kit (valves, ODS, igniters) to be included free of charge in the container. Request customized branding (OEM) and localized instruction manuals as part of the package. For long-term partnerships, negotiate a fixed price agreement for 12 months to hedge against fluctuations in raw material costs like steel.

Gas heaters are bulky; therefore, Sea Freight (FCL or LCL) is the most cost-effective method. Ensure the supplier provides a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), even if the units are shipped without gas tanks, as some components may still be flagged.
