Ensure the body material (e.g., WCB carbon steel, CF8/CF8M stainless steel, or Alloy steel) matches the fluid medium to prevent corrosion. Verify that the valve meets ANSI/ASME B16.34 standards for pressure-temperature ratings and API 600 or API 602 for design specifications. Additionally, check the flow coefficient (Cv) to ensure the valve meets your specific throttling and flow control requirements.

Focus on the seat and disc design. For high-precision throttling, a plug-type disc is preferred, while a composition disc is better for tight shut-off with small particles. Ensure the valve utilizes Stellite or hard-faced seating surfaces to enhance wear resistance. For fugitive emissions control, specify bellows-sealed globe valves or high-quality PTFE/Graphite packing that complies with ISO 15848-1 or API 622 standards.

Depending on the destination market, valves must carry specific certifications. For the European market, CE-PED (Pressure Equipment Directive) is mandatory. For the US, API (American Petroleum Institute) and ASME standards are critical. If the valves are used in hazardous environments, ATEX or SIL (Safety Integrity Level) certifications are necessary to ensure operational safety and legal compliance.

Globe valves are superior in throttling and frequent operation scenarios. Unlike gate valves, which are designed for fully open or fully closed positions, globe valves allow for precise flow regulation. They are ideal for cooling water systems, fuel oil systems, and high-pressure steam services where the pressure drop across the valve is not a primary concern but control accuracy is.

Always request a Material Test Report (MTR) or Mill Test Certificate (MTC) to EN 10204 3.1 standards. For high-value orders, hire a third-party inspection (TPI) agency like SGS or Intertek to perform Positive Material Identification (PMI) and hydrostatic pressure testing at the factory before shipment.

Focus on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the unit price. Negotiate based on raw material index pricing (e.g., current steel prices) and request volume-based discounts (typically 5-15% for container loads). Ask for a warranty extension to 18-24 months to demonstrate the supplier's confidence in their product quality.

Globe valves are heavy and prone to internal damage if not secured. Ensure the supplier uses seaworthy plywood crates (IPPC heat-treated) and applies anti-rust oil to all machined surfaces. For large diameter valves, specify that end protectors (plastic caps) must be securely bolted to prevent flange face damage during transit.

Utilize secure payment terms such as Letter of Credit (L/C) for large orders or Escrow-based services provided by reputable platforms. Avoid 100% upfront payments; a standard 30% deposit and 70% balance against the Bill of Lading (B/L) after successful inspection is the industry norm to protect the buyer's interests.
