As medical devices, these products must adhere to ISO 13485 quality management systems. Depending on the target market, look for FDA registration (USA), CE marking (Europe), or TGA certification (Australia). Additionally, ensure the materials are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified to guarantee they are free from harmful substances that could cause skin irritation or bedsores.

The top layer should be made of hypoallergenic, non-woven fabric or brushed polyester to minimize friction and prevent decubitus ulcers (pressure sores). Request biocompatibility test reports (ISO 10993) to ensure the material does not cause sensitization or irritation during prolonged skin contact.

Look for pads with tuck-in side flaps (wings) to secure the pad in place for active sleepers. For heavy-duty clinical use, prioritize multi-layer construction (typically 4-layer) which includes a wicking layer, an absorbent core, a waterproof barrier, and a non-slip base.

Always request a pre-shipment inspection (PSI) by a third-party agency like SGS or Intertek. Specifically, instruct them to perform a pressurized leakage test and a saline absorption capacity test to verify that the bulk production matches the approved gold sample.

Focus on tiered pricing based on container volume (FCL vs. LCL). Since medical pads are high-volume but low-weight, negotiating based on CBM (Cubic Meters) is often more effective than unit price alone. Ask for OEM/Private Labeling inclusions in the base price if you are ordering more than 5,000 units.

Medical pads are highly sensitive to moisture and odors. Ensure the supplier uses heavy-duty moisture-proof inner PE bags and double-walled corrugated export cartons. Request that the container be inspected for holes or light leaks before loading to prevent water damage during sea transit.

Stay informed about Anti-Dumping Duties (ADD) and specific Medical Device Excise Taxes in your country. Ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Origin (CO) to take advantage of any Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) that may reduce or exempt import duties.
