Ensure the supplier provides a surface treatment guarantee—for colored mesh, lacquer coating or PVD plating should be uniform to prevent peeling. Always request a tensile strength report if the mesh is used for safety barriers or ceiling installations.

Beyond aesthetics, metal mesh provides excellent ventilation and light diffusion, making it ideal for HVAC efficiency. It is inherently fireproof (Class A1 rating), which is a mandatory requirement for most commercial building codes. Additionally, it offers UV protection and can act as a semi-transparent privacy screen without blocking airflow.

For the US market, ensure the product meets ASTM E84 for flame spread and smoke development. For EU projects, compliance with EN 13501-1 fire classification is standard. If the project is eco-certified (like LEED), verify if the metal is 100% recyclable and if the supplier follows ISO 14001 environmental management standards.

The primary risk is dimensional inaccuracy. Since these are often custom-cut, a 1% error can render the product unusable. To mitigate this, require a technical CAD drawing approval before production starts. Another risk is oxidation during sea freight; ensure the supplier uses vacuum packaging or moisture-proof wooden crates with desiccant silica gel.

Focus on volume-based pricing tiers. For orders exceeding 500 square meters, you can typically negotiate a 10-15% discount. Additionally, request free installation hardware (tracks, pulleys, and bolts) as a value-add, which can save you significant local sourcing costs. Always use Trade Assurance or secure payment gateways to protect your deposit.

Due to the high weight-to-volume ratio, LCL (Less than Container Load) sea freight is the most economical for orders over 200kg. For smaller samples or urgent architectural mock-ups, Air Freight is viable but expensive. Ensure the Incoterms are clearly defined as FOB or CIF to avoid unexpected port handling charges at the destination.

Check for 'Audited Supplier' status on Made-in-China.com, which indicates the factory has undergone third-party verification by SGS or Intertek. Request a video factory audit to inspect their weaving looms and surface treatment tanks. A reliable supplier should provide material mill test certificates (MTC) to prove the chemical composition of the metal.
