A high-quality pantry should feature adjustable shelving to accommodate various container sizes. Request designs that include pull-out wire baskets, spice racks, and tandem pantry units which maximize depth usage. Ensure the load-bearing capacity per shelf is at least 15-20kg to safely store heavy canned goods and small kitchen appliances.

For high-traffic kitchens, UV-cured lacquer or High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) finishes are superior due to their scratch resistance and ease of cleaning. If a luxury look is required, wood veneers provide a natural aesthetic but require polyurethane sealing to protect against kitchen humidity and grease.

The biggest risks are moisture damage (mold) and structural breakage during transit. Ensure the supplier uses 5-layer corrugated export cartons with EPE foam corner protectors and vacuum-sealed plastic wrap. For LCL (Less than Container Load) shipments, insist on palletization to minimize handling damage.

Focus on the Total Landed Cost rather than just the unit price. Negotiate for a 30% deposit and 70% balance payment against the Bill of Lading (B/L). Ask for a 1-2% spare parts allowance (extra hinges, handles, and cam-locks) to be included in the price to handle minor field repairs without needing international returns.

Always hire a third-party inspection service (like V-Trust or SGS) to perform a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI). They should check for color consistency (Delta E < 1.0), moisture content of wood (8-12%), and perform a drop test on the packaging. Do not release the final payment until the inspection report is approved.

Check the HS Code (typically 9403.40 for wooden kitchen furniture) against your country's tariff schedule. Be aware that some regions have anti-dumping duties on wooden cabinets from specific origins. Consult with a licensed customs broker to confirm if your shipment qualifies for any trade agreements or if additional duties apply.
