Focus on the Degree of Cross-linking, which should be at least 70% for PEX-a and 65% for PEX-b to ensure long-term durability. Check the SDR-9 (Standard Dimension Ratio) for consistent wall thickness. Request Hydrostatic Burst Pressure tests and Long-term Hydrostatic Strength (LTHS) data to confirm the pipe can handle standard operating temperatures of 180°F (82°C) at 100 psi.

Calculate the Total Landed Cost, including the weight-to-volume ratio, as PEX is lightweight but bulky, significantly impacting shipping costs. Seek suppliers on Made-in-China.com that offer tiered pricing for 10,000+ meter orders, which can reduce unit costs by 15-25%. Consider purchasing in coils (up to 1000ft) rather than straight sticks to maximize container space and reduce joint fitting costs during installation.

The biggest risk is material substitution, where non-cross-linked PE is sold as PEX, leading to premature pipe failure. To mitigate this, use Third-party Inspection services (like SGS or Intertek) to perform a 'gel content test' before shipment. Additionally, ensure the UV exposure limits are strictly followed, as PEX degrades if left in sunlight for more than 30-60 days during transit or storage.

Utilize Trade Terms like FOB or CIF clearly in the contract. For payment, prioritize Escrow services or Letters of Credit (L/C) for large volumes. Demand a Quality Warranty of at least 25-50 years, which is the industry standard for premium PEX. Since PEX is often shipped in large coils, High Cube (HC) containers are recommended to maximize vertical space.
