Ensure the material is 100% Virgin Sabic or Bayer (Covestro) resin to guarantee structural integrity and prevent premature yellowing.

Polycarbonate is naturally sensitive to UV radiation. It is critical to specify Double-sided UV Protection (co-extruded) to prevent the panels from becoming brittle and losing transparency over time. For high-traffic or industrial areas, request an Anti-scratch (Hard-coated) surface to improve abrasion resistance, as standard polycarbonate scratches more easily than glass.

For construction and industrial safety, verify that the products meet UL 94 Flame Retardant ratings (ideally V-0 or V-2) and ASTM D1003 for Haze and Luminous Transmittance. If the windows are for the European market, ensure CE Marking and compliance with EN 1627 for burglar resistance; for the US market, check for ANSI Z97.1 impact safety standards.

Polycarbonate provides better thermal insulation than single-pane glass. For energy-efficient buildings, look for a low U-Value (Thermal Transmittance). If noise reduction is a priority, thicker solid sheets (8mm-12mm) or specialized acoustic-grade polycarbonate should be selected to achieve a higher Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating.

The biggest risk is surface scratching and warping during transit. Ensure the supplier uses PE protective film on both sides and utilizes fumigated wooden pallets or steel crates for LCL (Less than Container Load) shipments. For FCL (Full Container Load), verify that the panels are securely braced to prevent shifting, which can cause edge damage.

Prioritize Audited Suppliers who have undergone on-site inspections by third-party agencies like SGS or TÜV Rheinland. Check their Export Experience specifically in the building materials sector and request a Factory Inspection Video or a live video call to view their extrusion lines and quality control laboratory.

Since polycarbonate is a petroleum-based product, prices fluctuate with raw material costs. Negotiate a price validity period (e.g., 15-30 days) and ask for tiered pricing based on weight (tonnage) rather than just square meters. For long-term partnerships, negotiate for free replacement of damaged goods found upon arrival (within a 7-day inspection window).

Confirm the correct HS Code (typically 39206100 for polycarbonate sheets) to determine accurate import duties in your country. Be aware of Anti-dumping duties that some regions (like the EU or India) may impose on plastic products from specific origins. Always request a Certificate of Origin (CO) to potentially benefit from preferential tariff rates under trade agreements.
