For steel slag specifically, look for integrated Magnetic Separation technology to recover valuable metal scrap during the crushing process.

The choice depends on the material characteristics. Jaw Crushers are ideal for primary crushing of large, hard slag cakes. Impact Crushers or Cone Crushers are preferred for secondary crushing to achieve a finer, cubic shape, which is essential for construction aggregates. If you are processing wet slag, ensure the equipment has a non-clogging design or a specialized grate-free structure to maintain efficiency.

To ensure operational safety and legal entry into markets, the machine should carry a CE Marking for Europe or meet OSHA standards for the US. Key certifications include ISO 9001:2015 for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental impact. Ensure the supplier provides a Noise Level Certification (typically requiring <85dB at 1 meter) and features Dust Suppression Systems (like water sprays or bag filters) to comply with modern environmental regulations.

Calculate the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) by factoring in the initial purchase price, energy consumption per ton, and the replacement frequency of wear parts. A machine with a higher upfront cost but lower power consumption and longer-lasting liners often yields a better ROI. Additionally, consider the resale value of recovered metal if processing steel slag, as this can significantly offset operational costs.

The biggest risks include shipping damage and technical non-conformity. To mitigate these, always mandate a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) by third parties like SGS or Intertek. Ensure the supplier uses heavy-duty sea-worthy packaging, including anti-rust coating and secure steel-wire fastening within the container to prevent shifting during transit.

Focus on the Warranty Period and Spare Parts Package. Negotiate for at least a 12 to 24-month warranty and request a 'wear-parts kit' (extra jaws, liners, or belts) to be included in the initial price. For payment, use Secure Payment services or Letters of Credit (L/C) to ensure funds are only released upon verification of shipping documents.

Due to the weight and volume, Ocean Freight is the only viable option. Depending on the size, you may use a Standard Container (OT/FR for oversized parts) or Breakbulk shipping. Ensure the Incoterms are clearly defined; CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) is often easier for new buyers, but FOB (Free On Board) gives you more control over the shipping costs and the choice of carrier.

Verify if the supplier offers Remote Technical Guidance via video call or has overseas engineers for on-site installation. Request a full set of English-language Operation & Maintenance Manuals and a Foundation Drawing before the machine arrives so you can prepare the site in advance. Confirm the availability of long-term spare parts supply to avoid downtime.
