Choosing the right material grade is critical for longevity. For indoor or dry environments, Grade 304 is the industry standard due to its excellent balance of cost and corrosion resistance. However, for coastal areas, chemical processing, or marine applications, you must specify Grade 316, which contains molybdenum to resist pitting and chloride corrosion. For high-temperature industrial use, consider Grade 310S.

You must define three core parameters: Mesh Count (number of openings per linear inch), Wire Diameter (thickness of the wire), and Aperture (the clear distance between wires). For filtration tasks, a high mesh count with fine wire is required, whereas for security fencing or architectural facades, a larger wire diameter and wider aperture are necessary to ensure structural integrity and impact resistance.

The weave pattern dictates the sheet's stability and filtration accuracy. Plain Weave is the most common for general screening. Twilled Weave allows for thicker wires in a fine mesh, suitable for heavy-duty filtration. If you require a smooth surface and high strength for pressure filtration, specify Dutch Weave (Plain or Twilled), which offers a dense, dimensionally stable structure.

If the net sheet is used in food processing, ensure the supplier provides FDA compliance certificates and meets ASTM A580 standards. For European markets, LFGB or EC 1935/2004 certifications are mandatory. Always request a Material Test Report (MTR) or a Mill Test Certificate (MTC) to verify the chemical composition (Nickel and Chromium content) via spectrometer testing.

Material substitution is a common risk. To prevent this, hire a third-party inspection service (like SGS or Intertek) to perform an on-site PMI (Positive Material Identification) test before the balance payment. Ensure the contract specifies that the Nickel content must meet the minimum threshold for the requested grade (e.g., >8% for SS304).
