For hard substrates like ceramic mugs, aluminum sheets, or glass, a high-speed non-sticky paper with a smooth coating is preferred to ensure sharp detail and easy release after pressing.

Ensure the supplier complies with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification for sustainable paper sourcing. For the final application, especially in apparel, the paper's coating should be compatible with OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified inks to ensure the finished product is safe for skin contact. Request SGS or Intertek test reports regarding the paper's chemical composition and performance stability.

High-quality microporous coatings allow for lower ink consumption while maintaining high color density, which can reduce long-term printing costs by 10-15%. While premium coated paper has a higher upfront cost, it reduces the rate of defective products (rejects) and saves on expensive sublimation ink, leading to a better Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

The biggest risk is moisture damage during sea transit. Sublimation paper is highly sensitive to humidity, which can cause the coating to degrade or the paper to ripple. Ensure the supplier uses moisture-proof plastic inner packaging and desiccant packs within reinforced corrugated boxes. Another risk is batch inconsistency; always request a pre-shipment sample from the specific production lot you are purchasing.

Focus on annual volume commitments rather than one-off orders to secure tier-1 pricing, which can be 20% lower than standard wholesale rates. Negotiate for OEM branding on the back-print of the paper if you are a distributor. For payment, use secured transaction services provided by the platform to ensure funds are only released upon verification of the Bill of Lading (B/L).
