Ensure the fabric weight is specified in GSM (Grams per Square Meter); a standard quality T-shirt is usually between 140-180 GSM. Verify the colorfastness rating (Grade 4 or higher) to ensure designs do not fade after washing. Additionally, confirm the use of anti-pilling treatments and breathable mesh structures if the shirts are intended for sportswear.

For the US market, products must comply with CPSIA (especially for children's wear) and FTC labeling requirements. For the EU, ensure the dyes used are REACH compliant and the fabric holds an OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, which guarantees the garment is free from harmful substances.

Request a pre-production sample to check for ghosting (blurred edges), white streaks (common under armpits or seams), and color accuracy. High-quality sublimation should have a 'zero-hand' feel, meaning the ink is embedded in the fabric and cannot be felt on the surface.

The primary risk is color deviation between digital mockups and physical products. To mitigate this, provide Pantone color codes and request a physical strike-off before mass production. Another risk is sizing inconsistencies; always provide a detailed size chart in centimeters rather than relying on generic terms like 'Large' or 'XL'.

Focus on tiered pricing based on volume and ask for OEM/ODM customization services included in the unit price. Negotiate for lower MOQs on initial test orders to validate market demand. Ensure the contract specifies quality inspection standards and a clear lead time (typically 7-15 days for sublimation).
