If the totem is for public spaces, verify IK10 vandal-proof ratings for the protective tempered glass to ensure public safety and durability against impact.

Focus on the base plate thickness (typically 8mm-10mm steel) and the internal skeleton reinforcement. Ensure the exterior uses galvanized steel or aluminum alloy with a fluorocarbon (PVDF) coating or powder coating to prevent rust and UV fading. Request documentation on wind load resistance, especially if the totem exceeds 2 meters in height, to ensure it can withstand local weather conditions.

Inquire about laser-cutting for backlit logos, RAL color matching for brand consistency, and modular designs that allow for easy component replacement. For digital versions, ask if the supplier supports touchscreen integration (PCAP or IR) and customized peripheral ports like QR code scanners, thermal printers, or camera modules for interactive retail scenarios.

The biggest risks are physical damage during transit and high shipping costs due to volumetric weight. To mitigate this, insist on seaworthy packaging including vacuum-sealed plastic, thick EPE foam, and reinforced plywood crates (fumigated). Always use CIF or DAP terms if you are unfamiliar with local logistics, and ensure the cargo is covered by marine insurance.

Look for 'Audited Suppliers' who have undergone on-site inspections by third-party agencies like SGS or Bureau Veritas. Check their Business Type (Manufacturer is preferred over Trading Company for customization) and review their Export Experience to your specific region.
